Endura 4 Lightweight Cobalt Blue FRN, Satin experienced users being outdoors prefer knives that do not need sharpening in the field. For the discerning, Spyderco introduced a version of the Endura with a blade of SPY27 steel, a superb E.D.C. folder with injection-molded grips in the elite Cobalt Blue color reserved for knives with a blade of SPY27 steel.
In 1990, Spyderco introduced two folding knives , the Endura and the Delica, creating a demand for one-handed, lightweight folders at an affordable price. These models immediately became bestsellers. Thanks to their small size and low weight, they are an excellent option for everyday E.D.C. knives.
CPM SPY27 - a proprietary blend of alloys, including vanadium, molybdenum, niobium, nitrogen and cobalt. The high-alloy stainless steel contains 1.4% carbon and a 1% admixture of niobium (Nb), one of the best carbides, which contributes to the steel's wear resistance. Thanks to its properties, the steel holds sharpness for a very long time and guarantees aggressive cuts for a long time. It is easy to sharpen, corrosion resistant and contains a high admixture of 14% chromium. It provides good strength and cutting edge retention, as well as a fine-grained structure. Produced by US Crucible Industries using the particle metallurgy / Crucible® Particle Metallurgy(CPM) method. The CPM process creates a very homogeneous, high-quality steel with excellent dimensional stability, grindability and toughness compared to steels produced by conventional methods.
Blade - Clip Point type , highlights an elegant satin finish. The blade is derived with a Full Flat Grind to reduce weight, improving cutting properties. A circular SpyderHole cutout aids smooth opening of the blade with the thumb. Blade's notched back, ramp (jimping / crosshatching) positions the thumb, giving solid support for easy folder control. Blade Back-Lock with an additional crescent-shaped cutout designed by David Boye prevents the blade from folding during heavy use.
Handle grips in the color reserved for SPY27 steel knives Cobalt Blue. Bi-Directional Texturing non-slip grips and Spine Jimping notches on the backs of the Handle grips strengthen the grip, even with wet hands. Made of FRN (Fiberglass Reinforced Nylon), a fiberglass-reinforced nylon plastic. Metal hourglass clip with four-way (up/down, right/left) 4-way clip positions. In the back of the Handle lanyard hole, a hole for a cord.
Skeleton - two steel plates with cut-out holes, to which the grips are attached. This provides high strength and stiffness with low weight of the knife. Reinforced fully demountable structure connected by screws torx. Phosphor bronze washers make it easier to open and close the knife.
