CTS BD1N is an American martensitic stainless steel with high carbon, chromium, and nitrogen content. Developed and produced in the USA by Carpenter Technology Corporation, it’s an enhanced version of CTS-BD1, offering greater working hardness—up to 63 HRC. Key differences include the absence of vanadium and the presence of 0.10%–0.15% nitrogen, which produces nearly four times as many atoms as vanadium. CTS BD1N also contains increased levels of chromium, manganese, and silicon, resulting in improved performance. It excels as a blade steel with high corrosion resistance, notable edge retention, excellent toughness, and a fine-grained microstructure.
